Everyone with children knows parenting is difficult. Present a parenting challenge to ten different parents, you may be offered ten different solutions. Perhaps you have had such an experience.
While taking batting practice my light-hitting son’s baseball coach told him “you must rotate your hips if you want to hit with power.” On the next pitch my son employed the tip and crushed the ball to the outfield. My eyes were big as saucers, but not because of the hit. I could not believe my son had embraced and incorporated the teaching I had been extolling the entire year. My income hinged on my ability as a coach my entire life. You think my son would accept my coaching? No chance. He was however able to hear the teaching from someone else. I’m thankful his baseball coach was sharing the truth about hitting.
God provided truth on matters far more important than power-hitting. He spoke on every issue our children will encounter in their lifetime. God’s opinion has never changed. In spite of our best efforts, too often our kids don’t hear us. But we witness how they hear other’s voices. Unfortunately those “voices” are frequently internet strangers, peers we don’t know, secular television, etc. How critical to have voices beside ours speaking truth into our children. How critical to have our children being encouraged by the only word that can truly transform lives… the word of God.
