Our Inspiration

Standing outside her husband’s car after the last game of the college football season, the coach’s wife prepared to kiss him goodbye. In a moment he would head out on the recruiting trail, just as he had done each winter during their 18 years of marriage.   But the coach’s wife sensed all was not well with her husband.  ”Something seems to be bothering you,” she said softly.  The coach continued his intense stare out the windshield for a long moment before breaking the silence to admit the source of his struggle.  ”I don’t think I can look a Momma in the eye and tell her to send her baby to our program,” was his painful revelation of disillusionment.

Most coaches get into the profession to give back.  The game was enjoyable, but it also shaped their lives.  Coaching provided opportunity to stay connected to the game while sowing into their charges. Do well at your job, and opportunities to coach from bigger offices in state-of-the-art facilities filled with world-class athletes soon follow.  The problem is, the business of football has effectively secured the surrender of all but the most committed idealists and provided the missing ambition to those devoid of any dogma.  And unfortunately for young people, the culture which surrounds the business of sports, has little room for the heart of the participants…and even less room for the God of the universe.

Counter Culture Sports exists to battle this culture for the sake of our young people’s hearts and for the sake of the games they play.
